Tell us before the first treatment. Previous surgery, implanted metal, a spinal fusion, blood thinners, a pacemaker or reduced sensation in an area all change where and how we needle, and some of them rule out certain techniques. None of them rules out treatment by itself.

The intake asks for all of it, and we go through your history before the first treatment rather than after it.

The needles are a fraction of the thickness of the ones used for injections or blood draws. Most people feel the insertion as a dull pressure or a short ache rather than a sharp pain, and in many places they feel nothing at all.

If a point is uncomfortable, say so during the session and it gets adjusted. You are not expected to lie still and endure it.

Every needle is sterile, individually sealed, used once and disposed of straight after. Nothing is reused between patients or between sessions. That is the legal standard for licensed acupuncture in Florida, and it is worth saying out loud because it is one of the first things people picture.

Then say that on the phone, and say what was treated and how often. A course of relaxation acupuncture and a protocol for chronic nerve or joint pain are not the same treatment, even though both use needles.

It is the reason a lot of our patients came here second.

Fair question, and it is the one we hear most from people who have already been through the medical system. Dr. Chang holds a Doctorate in Oriental Medicine and a Master’s in Biomedical Science, and the explanation you get here is anatomical, not energetic: which structure refers pain into which area, and which points sit on it.

What we do not do is promise you a result. If you want to hear the reasoning for your own case before you commit to anything, ask for it on the phone. That call costs nothing.

Most of our patients notice the first change after two to three weeks. Pain that has been there for years does not resolve in one session, and anyone who tells you it will is guessing.

You get reassessed as you go. If nothing is moving, that is a reason to change the plan or to stop, and we will say so.

Chronic pain is treated as a series rather than as a single visit, because one session tells you very little. How long that series runs depends on the case, and you hear the plan before it starts.

You are not locked into anything. If you want to stop, you stop.

No, and this is worth being precise about. The free consultation is a phone call, not a visit to the practice. On it you describe what is going on, you hear whether this is something we treat, and you decide from there.

The appointment in the practice is a treatment and it is not free.

Honestly: the practice is busy, and the next open slot is often not in the same week. Short notice still happens, because slots open up.
